Betty Jean Swanson Wimpey
Betty Jean Swanson Wimpey, 84, of Murphy, passed away July 3, 2014 at Murphy Medical Center, one day before her 85th birthday. She was a native of Hayesville. She had attended the Ogden School and was a 1947 graduate of Hayesville High School. She had worked at the Clay County Jail with her husband; when her father was serving as sheriff. She then worked at Clifton Precision for 30 years before retiring as a supervisor. She loved to read, bird watch, and ride around.

She was the daughter of the late William Glenn and Lillian Ford Swanson. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Little; a son-in-law, Harry Little; and a sister, Mary Sue Barnard.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Jack Wimpey; three daughters, Sheila Grindstaff and husband, Leonard of Old Fort, N.C., Nan Copeland and husband, Stephen, and Jan Little and fiancé, Craig Pelletier, all of Murphy; four grandchildren, Eric Grindstaff and wife, Kara, Aaron and Adrienne Copeland and Josh Little.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6, in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Eric and Leonard Grindstaff, Josh Little, Craig, Richard, and Zack Pelletier,

The family received friends from 1-2:45 p.m., Sunday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
