Wake-up call came in a detention center

Oct. 1, 2015, I found myself waking up in Clay County Detention Center — in the drunk tank. No recollection of how I got there, only realizing that somehow I had let alcohol win. Embarrassment, guilt and shame had become three emotions that I felt on a regular basis.
After speaking with the magistrate, I learned of my charges:
• Felony child abuse.
• Misdemeanor resisting public officer.
• Felony malicious conduct.
I was completely devastated with the child abuse charge. I would never hurt my children.
The officer had stated that I had caused redness and bruising around my son’s neck and that I had intentionally inflicted serious physical injury to him.
