Distinctly different, strikingly similar kitchen appliances

Just as some foods may be distinctly different and at the same time strikingly similar (for example the condensed, evaporated, whole and skim milks in last week’s column) the same is true of appliances.
Traditional blenders, immersion blenders and food processors all have spinning blades that turn solid foods into various forms of liquid or powder, but each is particularly well-suited to certain tasks.
I have nicked my hands so often washing blender blades that I believe that they are pretty sharp, even though an article by Rochelle Bilow at bonappetit.com says that blender blades are fairly blunt compared with other similar appliances. It is the blender’s powerful motor that enables it to turn vegetables and stock into soup and fruits and vegetables into smoothies.
