Windel Locklear, 82, of Hayesville, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in a Clay County care facility. Windel was a native of Gainesville, Fla., where he lived most of his life until moving to Hayesville in 2006. He was employed at Brasington Cadillac Oldsmobile in Gainesville for more than 40 years, retiring as the service director. Windel enjoyed golfing, hunting and gardening, but he especially enjoyed hosting his annual barbecue for friends, family and business associates.

He was the son of the late Perry Auston and Ethel Jenkins Locklear. He was also preceded in death by a son, Randall Locklear.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo Atkinson Locklear; four children, Lisa McGovern and husband, David, of Anderson, S.C., Brian Locklear and wife, Karen, of High Springs, Fla., Mechele Davis and husband, Don, of Hayesville, and Allen Newborn, of High Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Steven McGovern and wife, Kelsey, Austin McGovern, Kaelyn Locklear, Harlie Locklear, Jason Davis and wife, Jessica, Justin Davis and wife, Holly, David Newborn and wife, Becky, and Rebecca White; and eight great-grandchildren, Barrett McGovern, Logan Davis, Briella and Emily Ybarra, Jonah Davis, Braxton and Noah Lingner and Roy White Jr.

No services are planned.
