Fran Wallace, 76, of Hayesville, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in a Clay County care facility. She was born Aug. 2, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Frank and Peggy Sullivan. 

Fran moved to Chamblee, Ga. while in high school, where she met her future husband. She was a graduate of Georgia State University, where she obtained her Master’s degree in English. She went on to teach at Georgia Tech for many years until retiring in 2004. Fran moved to Hayesville in 2007, where she served on the board of the Clay County Historical & Arts Council and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Fran taught several semesters at Young Harris College and was active in the Institute for Continuing Learning and served as president of the organization for a year. She was active in co-ed sports — softball and volleyball — alongside her husband. Fran enjoyed being outdoors, camping and gardening and she loved reading, belonging to the Mountain Area Book Reading Group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maureen Macouryk.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Ron Wallace; a son, Ron Wallace Jr., of Cumming, Ga.; her two grandchildren, whom she loved and enjoyed, William “Buck” and Bibi Wallace; a brother, Frank Sullivan Jr. and wife, Freda, of Blairsville, Ga. and four nieces, Heather, Kelli, Lauren and Lisa.

No services are planned at this time.
